Frequently asked questions about Medical Hypnosis

  • I do not rush into doing hypnosis. The first session is usually for history taking, explanation of hypnosis and hypnotisability assessment.
  • Hypnosis needs good planning. Sometimes other approaches are more appropriate. Some people are better at hypnosis than others. Almost all people can learn hypnosis.
  • All sessions are recorded for you and you will be given a CD at the end of each session.
  • You are very welcome to bring a support person with you to any of your sessions if this would make you feel more comfortable.
  • When you come out of hypnosis you will be able to function as normal. You will not be drowsy and may well feel very refreshed. You will be able to walk and drive.
  • The cost of sessions is $120 (which includes GST) per session.
  • You will learn how to use self-hypnosis.
  • Most people only require 4-5 sessions, but depression, chronic pain and complex or multiple problems usually take longer (smokers usually require only 3 sessions.)
  • I expect you to spend time between sessions regularly practicing what you have learned or carrying out therapeutic homework. We learn best by doing.
  • If you want to stop smoking, and more importantly stay stopped, I will also give you a 12-page handout on behavioural modification strategies.
